Background

The Independent Review of COVID-19 Outbreaks in Australian Residential Aged Care Facilities issued its final report on 1 November 2021.

The review was conducted by Professor Lyn Gilbert AO and Adjunct Professor Alan Lilly.

In it's response to the report, the Government agreed to implement all 38 recommendations made in the report, heralding another raft of changes to the way residential aged care homes are regulated.

About Professor Lyn Gilbert

Professor Lyn Gilbert is an infectious disease physician,  clinical microbiologist and senior researcher at Sydney Institute for Infectious Diseases, University of Sydney. She has a particular interest in prevention and control of infectious diseases of public health importance.

 

From February 2020 to March 2021, she chaired the national Infection Control Expert Group (ICEG) and was an expert member of the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC). Since March 2020, with Adjunct Professor Alan Lilly, she has conducted four independent reviews of COVID-19 outbreaks in residential aged care facilities.
